SimTech would like to organise 1-day Arduino Microcontroller Workshop in the College on the 7th August 2010. (Saturday).
The workshop is free and lunch will be provided.
The aim of the workshop is to create awareness and generating interest for students in the field of robotics.
During the workshop, students would mainly be interacting directly with the microcontroller in groups of two or three. They will have the chance to run some demo programs on the microcontroller through the computer, students would also be able to interact with sensors, LEDs and motors. Students will then be able to see the capabilities of the microcontroller.
The workshop will be free and lunch will be provided. However we hope to get a minimum number of students (abt 25) who are interested to participate before the workshop can be held.

This competition is for students and teachers to produce a 3-minute documentary video showing how a science concept learnt in school has been applied in daily life.

The theme for this year’s YDSP Science and Technology Camp would be Naval Technology. For the first time, the students would need to fulfil a series of water theme challenges!
The camp will be held concurrently from 31 May to 4 Jun 2010. Over the 5 days, the students will get a chance to attend DSTA engineers’ sharing session, visit interesting projects, attend workshops and take part in competitions.
In this competition, students would construct water borne vessel. Electronic kits comprising electronic circuit boards, DC motors, servo motors, radio control functions etc would be used by the students in building the vessel. The vessel would be capable of full operator control and be required to fulfil a series of challenges.
We are looking for four TA1 students for each camp. If additional placements are available due to the non-take up by other invitees, YDSP would open up the placements on a first come first serve basis.

We are pleased to inform you that the YDSP World of Science Modules are now open for application! If you are interested, please complete the application form (YDSP WOS Application Form 2010) and pass them to Mr Tan Seng Kwang (letterbox 130) by 4 May 2010 (Tuesday).
World of Science is a series of enrichment modules under the Young Defence Scientist Programme (YDSP), jointly managed by DSO & DSTA. World of Science (WOS) is organised collaboratively by DSO and our partners mainly from Temasek Laboratories, NTU & NUS.
This year, we have a total of 8 exciting WOS modules!
Details of all the modules are given in the attached (YDSP World of Science Synopsis 2010).
Please note that there will be selection test/ interview necessary for the Computer Security & Quantum Mechanics Modules.
Computer Security: The test questions for module is attached. (Aptitude Assessment2010 (Computer Security Module only). Kindly submit the answer sheet together with the application form.
Quantum Mechanics: DSO/DSTA will be interviewing all applicants who signed up. Students will be called up for an interview by end April.
The WOS modules are only open for TA2 students, with strong interest in Physics and Maths and can commit their time fully
(Certificate will only be given to students with 100% attendance for the 6 modules that are conducted during the June Holiday & at least 70% attendance for the other 2 modules running in Term 3.)
Please note that each student is only allowed to apply for 1 module.
Please note that 80% of the seats will be allocated for Singaporean participants, the other 20% will be for Singapore PR & Foreign Students.
